Super Sidequest Summer '26

The video where we announced the whole thing.

Back in February, CJ and I posted this video, where I announced we were going to do a series exploring making a game from scratch.

Weeeeeeellll it's the 8th month of the year, and uhhhh, ehehehe — it's time to get some traction on that I think! We actually got started on this way back at the beginning of the year, our first "research" game being Princess Maker 2.

In retrospect, for speed, we probably should have played a shorter game. But I insisted that we play a full run of Princess Maker 2 so that we could see our ending. That created… over 7 hours of footage, and uhh, these videos weren't meant to be over 15 minutes each, so we kinda gave ourselves a huge side quest…. That we still haven't finished, LOL.

A DaVinci Resolve project called Princess Maker 2, with a timeline running past the seven-and-a-half hour mark and the game's thank-you-for-playing ending on screen.
7 hours, 31 minutes of Princess Maker 2. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

To give us some grace, we did do a 2.5 month stint in Asia from February to April, and we planned to work on the video while out there — and found out while on the trip that the files we copied were corrupted! So we had to wait until we got back home to get the original footage off the computer we did the capture on. By the time we got back to Seattle it was warming up and practically summer, and summer has its way of blessing you with random last-minute fun things to do every week.

Yes, I would like to have a lil picnic with the homies by the lake. Yes, I would like to go check out a World Cup game midweek during a really busy time at work. Yes I would like to watch your adorable cutie patootie cat for a week. Yes I would like to spend my next 8 Saturdays trying out wheel pottery for the first time. Yes I would like to help you with your birthday party as the mini game DJ. Yes I would like to try and get that exclusive always-sold-out pizza from that one spot where the owner was a baker from the other place you like — what do you mean it sold out in the same minute!?? Yes I would like to keep trying for weeks until we finally accidentally all make it in and order 3 huge pizzas that were all just okay 😭. Yes I would like to host most of my family in my house for a full week. Yes I would like to get stuck in a parking garage in Bellevue after 4th of July fireworks for a full hour and a half while my gas is on E. Yes I would like to try some new ADHD meds. Yes I would like to be sick right after my family's visit. Yes I would like to be on 4 different features at work for an undetermined period of time, it's fine I totally can do everything and definitely don't have a boundaries or delegation problem at all 😭 (we're working on it). Yes, yes, yes — what else is the summer for but to be out frolicking and doing stuff outdoors, with people. So much to do, so little time, and everything begging for your attention.

Anyway, all that to say… summer is almost over! Time to get these videos started/done! I already accidentally started thinking of a game idea before we even got to that part! Also, tomorrow is the beginning of Jimothy Jamothy and you know I cannot resist a good meme, especially if it's one that mixes so many things I'm into: game dev, Seattle goofiness, and just lil guys!

Okay okay, if we're lucky, next post will be about what ended up getting made for Jimothy Jamothy. GLHF!
